" Waihi, Wednesday. The criminal statistics for the Waihi Magistrate's Court for the 12 months ended December 31, 1907, are as follows, the figures in parentheses being those for the previous year, which have been included for the ©alto of comparison: Number of persons takenTnto custody, summoned, or apprehended, 224 males (225) and 5 females (7); discharged for -want of prosecution or evidence, 18 males (8); dismissed on merits, 14 males (5); committed for trial or sentence 4 males (2); number summarily convicted, 177 males (126) and 2 females (3); fined, 99 males (95) and 2 females (2); imprisonment in lieu of fine or surety, 8 males (11); peremptory imprisonment, 8 males (18); bound over with or without sureties, 2 males (3); orders made, 38 males (39) and 3 females (3); convicted and discharged with a caution, 43 males (45). The civil cases for the corresponding period read: Plaints entered, 206 (283); cases trie 3, 203 (241); aggregate amount sued for, £1528 9s 3d (£2694 ss); aggregate amount recovered, £959 17s 5d (£IO7O lis Id). The details famished in connection with the criminal statistics give the cases of drunkenness as 55, drunk and disorderly 3, obscene language 11, on licensed premises during prohibited hours 6, prohibited persons on licensed premises 3, prohibited persons procuring liquor 6, procuring liquor for prohibited' persons 2", prohibition orders issued 13.
