OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUBS SUMMER MEETING. SECOND DAT. ';■; Pixa weather again, prevailing yesterday „ the Otatuihu Trotting Club were enabled to bring oft. the second day's programme of their earnmer meeting ; under auspicious .'circumstances end in the presence of a. good attendance of spectators. The handicapping of Mr. F. W. Edward* van productive of some interesting racing, the finishes in several events being clone, particularly so in the opening event (the Trial Trot), when a head only separated first and second horses. As on the opening day, .track stewards were ported right round the course, so as to guard sis much as possible againtt questionable practices. An inquiry was held by the stewards into the form shown; by Bogey, the winner of the Mangere Trotting Handicap, it being considered inconsistent with Saturday's performance. After consideration , the .horse wag'■ disqualified for the remainder 'of the meeting, 'but, the owner giving notice of appeal to the Trotting Conference, the investments on the machine were impounded pending the decision of that body. Mr F. Yonge, the secretary, worked successfully to ensure everything going off smoothly, whilst Mr. .F. McManemin gave satisfaction as starter. In the Suburban Pony Handicap Hopscotch collided with the rails at the back of the course, and his rider (Conquest) sustained a severe cut on the leg, necessitating several stitches being put in. Sixteen bookmakers were doing businessone more than on the opening day. The totalisator investments . amounted to, £2363, against £248? 10a on the second day last year, a decrease of £124 10s. This makes £5555 for tho two days. In 1907 the total for the first two days was £5486. Tho following ore, the results .of .yesterday's racing :— TRIAL TROT HANDICAP of 25sovs: second horse to receive stovs from the stake. One mile anil a-half. ' Mr. S. Tanner's blk g Mack, aged, by Merrimac, 10s. (Grotty) 1 Mr. W. E. Singleton's ch g Harold Huou, Syrs, 6s. (Lowe) 2 Mrs. Erina Kirkwood'a b m Orakei. syrs, 12s. (Hall). When half-a-mile had been covered Porangi was leading the favourite (Mack), who had cut down his field in good style, by five lengths, but when tho stand was reached Mack was in front. Ho continued to show the. way over the whole of the last round, and although Harold Huou threw out a strong challenge in the straight he could not quite catoh the sou of Merrimac, who just lasted long enough to win by a head. The third horse (Orakei) was about 50yds further away. Time, 4m. as.

TRAMWAY TROT HANDICAP of 30sovs; second horse to receive Ssovs from the stake. One

mile and a-lialf. Mr. "W. B. Singleton's ch g Harold Huon, syrs, by Huou Junior—Beenleigh, lis. (Lowe) 1 Mr. J. Brady's b g Little Paul, aged, scratch (Grotty) .-. ... 2 Mr. J. G. Lecky's gr m Fibre, aged, 12s. (Lecky) 3

Also started: Lissie Bheg, scratch (Orange); Bert, ss. (Canham); Nat Gould, 6s. (McGregor); Royal Albert, 10». (Richards); Major Election, 10b. (Scott); Plaintiff, 12s. (Goosman).

When the back stretch was being negotiated the limit mare (Fibre) had a commanding lead of. 15 lengths from Harold Huon, who wae followed at an interval of a length by Nat Gould, but when tho dip was reached Plaintiff was in second position. When the field came past the stand Fibre was still in front, but Harold Huon, who had again'made up hia ground, was within 10 "lengths of her. The gray mare continued to show the way right round to-the end of the back stretch on. the final circuit, but when they raced into the dip Harold Huon wag in pride of place, with Little Paul an third position and coming fast. The leader, however, held hia own in the rnn home, an interesting finish being spoiled by Little Paul breaking opposite the stand and enabling Harold Huon to score a six lengths' victory. Fibre was half that distance behind Little Paul. Time, 4m. 12 2-ss. Lissie Bheg was favourite.

SUBURBAN PONY HANDICAP of 35sovs; second . pony to receive ssovs from the Btake. For : ponies 14 hands Sin and under. Five furlongs.

Mr. H. R. McKeuzie's b g Hughie, 3vrs, by Soult— Web, Bst (E. Brown) .*.. ... 1 Mr. P. J. Petersen's br m Waihou, svra, :>/Bst 111b (Chaafe) ... ... ... " ... 2 Mr. W. .When the barrier lifted Hopscotch was first to commence, followed by Hughie and Dr. Quest in that order. Running along the back stretch the last-named was slightly to the good of Hopscotch, Hughie being almost level with the second horse. Dr. Quest held his position across the top, and was first to turn for home, but when they settled down for the run to the post Hughie put in his claim, and was upsides with his opponent before the distance was reached. Waihou, who had up to this point been at the. tail end of the field, here put in a determined rim, but although the daughter of Soult headed the others ehc could not overhaul Hughie, who won by a neck. Hopscotch finished third, three lengths behind the second horse. Time, lm. ss. The winner was be.st backed on the machine.

SUMMER TROT HANDICAP of 50sovs; second hor&e to receive ssovs from the stake. Two ' miles. Mrs. Herbert's b g Duke C, aged, by Duke —Countess, 10s. (Herbert) ... 1 Mrs. Moore's b g Happy, aged, 13s. (Paul); Macquarrie, 20s. (Slav).

When the horses came into the straight on the first round Macquarrie was 20 lengths in front of Ague* B and Happy, but when they ran past the stand the second and third horse* had closed up a bit, and were within five lengths of the leader at the back of the course Both, however, broke a. bit further on, and Macquarrie was still in command when the home stretch was entered upon the second time. Happy, who had again settled down, was in front as the straight was left behind, four lengths to the good of Macquarrie. whilst Duke C. had moved up third, but a good way back. Ilappv continued to show the way right round the course, and came into the straight five lengths to the good of Duke C, who, trotting in good style, had supplanted Macquarrie. An interesting race to. the past ensued /or first honour!-, but Happy tired, and tho son of Duke had his opponent's measure 100 yds from the post and heat the favourite by a couple of lengths, the latter being 50yds to the good of Agnes Si. Tableau was fourth. Time, sm. 8 o-ss. Itedleal tea rod at [lie start, and, colliding with All Night, the hitter's rider (Scott) wait, thrown, but. luckily sustained no injury.
