MEETINGS.

PONSOSBY BAPTIST CHURCH. THE annua' meeting of the Ponsonby Baptist Church was hckl in the Church Hall last evening. The !!ev. Alfred North presided, ami there Mas a good attendance. The annual report of the trustees, which was read and adopted, stated that no very large increase had taken place iii the membership of the church during the year, and the number of members on the roll at the present time was 131. A bazaar held hist .September had proved most successful, and the funds of the Baptist Missionary Society unci those of the church had benefited considerably thereby. The Ladies' Sewing Guild had done splendid work, and "members intended holding a sale of work at an early date. The members of the choir, with .air. Long as conductor, and Mr. H. Bigelow as organist, had rendered great help in making the services of a bright and attractive character. 'the Sunday-school, under the superintendence of Mr. Arthur oones. was in a flourishing condition, although a large 'amount of sickness amongst tho scholars had greatly militated against the attendance. At present thero' were 23 teachers ; and 200 'scholars on the roll. The .Sunday-school at Richmond was being carried on mostly by iuember&*of the church, Alx. W. H. Patterson being superintendent, and there ' were eight teachers and 70 scholars on the roll. The finances of the church were in a satisfactory condition, although a debt yet remained to be wiped off. During the evening addresses were given by the Revs. T. A. Williams and W. R. Woolley, and songs were rendered by Mrs. Watts, Miss Galloway, and Messrs. Strickett and Shaw. Mrs. Adams acted as accompanist. VETERANS' HOME. The annual committee meeting of the Veterans' Home was held on Tuesday, the Hon. E. lljtchelson presiding. Tho chairman said he would «iike to "be relieved of the duties of chairman. The Mayor spoke in high terms of praise of Mr. Mitchelson's past work, and proposed his re-election. Messrs. D. W. Duthie and F. G. Ewington supported the motion, 3aying that had it not been for Mr. Mitchelson's regular attendance at the monthly meetings, and bis valuable advice and hard work, the institution would not now be in its present satisfactory position. Mr. Mitehelson said that under the circumstances he would take office for another year. It was decided to forward the annual report to Sir Wra. Russell, at Wellington, who will lay it before th« Board, of which His Excellency the Governor is president.

LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION. At the last meeting of th« east branch, of the Liberal and Labour Federation (the president, Mr. Q. L. Peaeoeke, presiding), the following resolutions were carried: —" That this federation approves generally of the graduated land tax • proposals of the Government, and thinks that the £40,000 limit is a reasonable one. " Regarding overcrowding in trnmears, this branch regrets the action of the City Council in allowing the Tramways Company to carry, more, passenpars than seating accommodation is provided for, and it hopes that the suburban local bodies will adhere to their declared intention of enforcing the performance by the Tramways Company of their obligations incurred under a contract which secures to the said company the exclusive use for many years of the public roads for tramway purposes."
