Capetown, July 3. The Cape House of Assembly lias unanimously adopted Mr. J. X. Mcrriman's resolution, thanking the Imperial Government for granting responsible government to the Transvaal and Orange River Colonies, and expressing a hope that the Federation of the South African States would follow.
Dr. Jameson, the Premier, bantered Mr. Merriman for coming to the rescue of the Imperial Government, and declared that all South Africa wanted was responsible Government, only some thought it ought to have come earlier, some later.
Mr. Theodore Schreiner refused to vote, declaring that the Imperial Government, had betrayed native interests by granting unconditional responsible government.
