WINTER SHOW BUTTER AWARDS.

RESULTS OF EXPORT COMPETITIONS.

AUCKLAND TAKES PREMIER , . POSITION. The awards in the export classes ; in the butter section, in connection with the present Winter Show, which is to be opened to-day, were made available yesterday, the judging having been commenced on Monday, and continued yesterday. The judges were Messrs. D. Cuddie (Chief Dairy Commissioner), Shirley, Johnston, and Wright, dairy produce graders. The competition was exceedingly keen in the open classes, and very great interest was aroused . owing | to the fact that there was such a very I large entry list, and the prize money totalled £281. The competition for grading | points on the season's output has concluded, but results in this class, which carries ! with it the Weddel cup, will not be announced till Thursday. Factories in many different parts of the colony are competing in the open classes for export, and this contest was recognised as a trial of strength for New Zealand. The result is the awarding of the championship to Whitford Park factory. Auckland, which scored 95a points, the highest in the show. In the two export classes open to all factories in New Zealand, Auckland factories take the lead. One of the most interesting points is that the total entries in the butter section num- ' ber 160, undoubtedly the largest butter show yet held in the colony, or at any rate the export .section is by far and away the largest yet seen here. In the export classes alone there were 119 entries, and competitors were restricted to one entry in each class. Moreover, these figures do not include the entries in the grading points competition, in which all the principal factories in Auckland are competing. The Palmerston North Show, which was ; hitherto considered to be the largest butter show in the colony, has 92 entries in the export class. The Auckland exhibition, drawing entries from both islands, may be said to be one of the most representative, ever held.' ///:■ ■■_.'■..''■.'.^ '.l'"'''-,' . The .first class is one for two boxes of export butter, open to all factories in New Zealand, the butter being taken out of grading stores by officials appointed by the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, at a date during March last determined by the stewards , in charge of the section.
