AN AMERICAN EXPEDITION. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. New York, May 20. Dr. Frederick Cook, of New York,; is preparing an expedition for the South Pole, to leave in the summer of 1908. He is constructing special motors able to travel successfully on land, sea, or ice. ■ The above makes the third South Polar expedition in preparation. Lieutenant Shackleton, R.N., sets out with the British' expedition in October, and will make Lyttelton his headquarters. Then, a Belgian expedition under M. Arctowski is being prepared. Motors are to be used for the; land journeys in each of them, and should be suitable for the vast wind-swept iceplains traversed by Captain Scott, of the Discovery expedition. ,
