The Times says the Pope has entrusted the whole of the work of revising the Vulgate to the monks of the Benedictine Order. The Vulgate is'.' the version of the Bible executed in Latin bv St. Jerome at Bethlehem,- at intervals from 385 to 404> with the object of showing what was and was not in the original documents. His labours resulted in the. Old and the New Testaments for th© first time being regarded as sections of one book. His version of the Bible became universally adopted by the Western Church and is accepted to-day as authentic by the Roman Catholio Church.
