Saturday (writes our Taupiri ,cdrrespordent). .'Deceased,* who had for some years ■been an invalid, had reached the age of 81 ; years. ' Mr. Miller, was a native of North-, • cUrry, a \illage-in~ Somerset (England). " At the age of 27 lie' entered the Imperial Army, * and ■ saw in all'twelve years' service. ■ He landed in Australia in 1854, and after spending five years-in Tasmania and New South; Wales "arrived in Taxanaki in the troublous "times of the Maori war.. Mr. Miller, along with.his regiment;(the 12th Infantry), was,; in many sharp engagements,; and he was present > at * the ' famous fight ■ at Rangiriri. On his discharge deceased, settled in the .Waikalo," where he remained till tfcvtitne , of his death. '; He was in receipt of an Imperial'pension. He 1 leaves a widow, four sons and five- daughters, and ] height grand-: children. -A largo; number of people r at- ' tended the"' funeral, at which the vicar; of ' the parish* the Rev. A. J.'
