HAMILTON.

A DEPUTATION of members of the Chamber of Commerce waited upon Mr.' Meddings, inspector of telegraphs, with : tho object of getting telephone communication. 1 As a result Mr. Meddings promised to recommend the Government , to erect tee lines to Matangi,- Bruntwood, Hautapu, i-'encourt, T;ujiwhare, and Newstead, provided an adequate guarantee be given. He did not think tills would amount to more than £30 per annum. In regard to the Waitetuna lines Mr. Meddings said the storekeeper at • Whatawhatahad declined to have a Bureau; at his store. If a suitable man could be found to take charge he would do what he could to have it arranged. He could promise bureaux at Waitetuna and Te Uku, but could not promise anything with regard to •Te Muta, nor could he promise to connect Hamilton with the King Country, as the expense . would be too great. lie was , afraid also that Ngaruawahia, Taupiri, and Huntly would. have to wait. ; Extensive alterations are being made in, the post office building in order that the upstairs rooms may be utilised by the operators. . A poll was taken yesterday in : the Waipa County as to borrowing £2500 for the following —Gravelling the Hamilton-Nga-ruawahia Road, metalling near Te It apa railway: station, forming and metalling Frankton Road, metalling Hamilton-Ohaapo Road, grading Hnmilton-Ohaupo Road, grading and gravelling Melville's Road. In Hamilton the voting was 49 to 24 in favour, but the results in the other ridings are not yet to hand. CAMBRIDGE. THE Waikato Hunt Club's season for "1907 was opened on Saturday week at; Hautapu. There was a good , muster of * liuntspoople. The hounds essayed several runs, but as the scent did not lie well the sport was not very good. The horses were also,- not up to hunting form, and riders handled them carefully. Several promising steeds made their appearance for the first time. Rain fell heavily about three p.m., and an adjournment was made to the master's (Mr. Norman Banks) residence, where all were entertained.
