GERMAN LINER ON FIRE.
HELPED BY A BRITISH CRUISER. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. London, January 28. The North German Lloyd's steamer Seydlitz, bound from Colombo to Pcnang, took lire the other day when in the Bay of Bengal.
Her condition was noticed by H.M. cruiser Diadem, which went to her assistance.
The cruiser, took off the passengers, who numbered 104, and the mails, and escorted the Seydlitz to Ceylon, where she remains.
The. Sejdlitz is a. i-vse' screw steamer of 4-971 tons register. She left Hamburg for Yokohama, on November 12 and called at. Port said on November 25. The steamer is owned by the Norddeutscher Lloyd Company, of Bremen.
