It is recorded that B. It. Day, the Irish champion, has broken the world's record for 500 yds, previously held by Harry Hutchezis, whoso time was 30s. Day is said to have covered the. distance at a railway sports meeting in 295., but from later accounts the track, on being re-measured, was found to bo three yards short, so that the figures will not be officially recorded. At, Coltio Park, New York, on Octobcr 7, M. W. Sheppard, starting from scratch in, a 600 yds handicap, finished first in the fine time of lm. 11 3-55., which is only 3-ss. slower than the record held by T. Burke, of New Zealand.
