THE MAMARI REDOCKED.
DAMAGE COMPARATIVELY SMALL.
Ihe s.k. Mamari, the docking of which wan attended by a lamentable accident on November 27, whereby three lives were, lost, was floated into Calliope Dock again ou Monday. Tho vessel, when ho water receded, rested safely oil the new blocks recently laid down, and chiefly consisting of iron bark. These new blocks are oil 4|iu high, as against 4ft lOin, the height of the blocks on the occasion of the accident. Amongst those present at the docking were Mr. Kettle, S.M., who is conducting the inquest in connection with the accident, and Captain Evans, marine superintendent of the Shaw, Savill Company, who came up from Wellington specially "to see the redocking of the vessel. There were also representatives of the Harbour Board and several engineers and surveyors present. Wlien an examination of the hull was made it was found that the big liner ha/ 1 gone through the ordeal of the accident marvellously well. The starboard bilge keel, or rolling chock, was bent upwards about 3in, and on the port side for about a-quarter of its length the bilge keel was bent slightly. About 50 or 60 rivets had been strained and broken, but this fact was already known, as some of the rivets were found in the dock when pumped out after the accident. I lie hull was examined by the captain, engineer, surveyors, and Captain Duder (harbourmaster), and as far as could be seen this was the whole extent of the damage, the slime, etc., on the vessel preventing a closer examination at this "stage, and there appeared to be no damage whatever t» the keel or the hull proper. •
