THE NEW ELECTORATES.
NEWTOWN LICENSING POLL.
{.BY TELEGRAM.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Saturday The Post says that the creation of a new electoral district in Wellington, to be known as Wellington Suburbs, raises the question as to what will be the position of affairs in connection with the licensing poll. Under the City Single Electorates Act three Wellington seats then existing (North, Central, and East) were constituted one electorate for the licensing poll purposes, Newtown being a separate electorate for those purposes. Now, however, the city has been divided up into four electorates (North, Central, East, and South), and the old Newtown seat is called Wellington South. It appears likely that as Newtown was a separate electorate for licensing purposes in 1905 it will expect to be so regarded under the altered conditions, and the Rev. F. W. Isitt, secretary of the . New Zealand Alliance, when spoken to on the subject, confirmed that impression. It. is understood that Mr. A. R. Atkinson will be a candidate for the Suburbs seat next election.
