THE SYDNEY TRAGEDY.

The police of Regent-street Station, Sydney, received news .on Monday, December 3, which pointed to a murder having been committed in Surry Hills. About eleven o'clock Constable Southwell went to a house in Little Hill-street, Surry Hills, and there found Sydney Edwin Bradford, about 30 years of age, lying in an unconscious condition. The constable summoned the Civil Ambulance, who conveyed the man to the Sydney Hospital, where life was pronounced extinct. On making an examination of the body a deep wound like a cut from a knife was found over the heart, and another under the left, armpit. Both wounds slanted ! downwards. Dr. Bell, who made the examination, expressed the opinion that death was duo to the wound in the breast, it hav--1 ing penetrated almost to the heart. In the room where Bradford was lying in Little Hill-street was found a largo knife. - The only other occupant of the house where the body, was found was a woman, said to bo Bradford's flWfe. She was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station. She stated that she and the deceased ;had been out.for the day, returning in the evening.'They had a quarrel in the street, and then went inside.' Subsequently Bradford left the house. Shortly afterwards she heard screams, and going to the front door saw him on his hands and knees on the road, with blood streaming from his wounds. There was a pool of blood about 20ft long in the gutter directly opposite the house.
