[BY TELEGRAPH. correspondent.] Waihi, Monday. At the Police Court to-day Charles Foster Wigley was charged with assaulting James Foley at Katikati on August 10. After a considerable amount of evidence had been given the Bench considered that the case had been proved, and fined the defendant £1 with costs. The sum of £63 6» has so far been raised for the Seddon memorial fund. During the past fortnight' the Miners" Union paid out in sick pay the sum of £35 3s 4d, and during the previous two weeks £35' 16s. A young woman named Vene Anderson, employed as a domestic at the Waitekaun Hotel, was lighting the firo this morning when her blouse caught fire. She immediately ran down to the river. Her arms and back were badly burned in the meantime. She was subsequently brought over to the Wat hi Hospital for treatment. < At the monthly meeting of the Waihi School Committee it was 'decided 'bat Mr. H. Robson be recommended to the Board to fill tho vacancy jat the high school.; The .secretary of the' 1 Board wrote to she effect that an ,appointment to the high school to work independently of the -master of trie primary school was contrary to the provisions of the Act. It was moved by Mr. Cathey, seconded by Mr. Carter, and carried, "That the letter* re technical and manual education be handed over to tho subcommittee dealing with the subject, with all other correspondence the secretary may have from Mr. George George and the Education Board." It was moved by Mr. Cathey and seconded by Mr. Carter, "That a sub-com-mittee be appointed to go into the question of the separate high school." This was carried. Messrs. Slevin, Evans, and Henderson were appointed the Visiting Committee for the next three weeks.
