ACCIDENT TO THE ATUA.

RUNS ON A REEF AT APIA. THE VESSEL DAMAGED. The Union Company's steamer Atua, which auivedat Suva from. Auckland, Tonga, and Samoa on September 4, en route to Sydney, met with an accident when leaving Apia Harbour. The Atua, is the new steamer for the Auckland -Island trade. According to advices received in Auckland yesterday from Suva, when coming of Apia one of the engines refused to work, the result being that the steamer ran up some 15ft on the reef. The vessel was got off, and proceeded to Levuka, and on the passage the steering gear went wrong, delaying the steamer in making port. The Atua was reported to be leaking, it being evident that me or more plates in the hull wore injured. i\. Marine Board inquiry into the accident vas to have been held at Suva on September 5.
