A TRAGIC OCCURRENCE.

A strange fatality occurred the other night, in the Upper Murray district. At about, midnight Constable Wilkinson, of Bowna, was apprised of the fact that a horse, with harness on, had arrivod at Bowna. The constable went out, and surmising that an accident had occurred, searched the road between Bowna and Wagra all night. At about half-past eight in the morning he discovered a buggy rug and other things on th« roadside, about 20 miles from Albury. He followed a vehicle track, and found an overturned sulky about, half-a-mile further on. The suliky had smashed into a fence near Fowler's Swamp. Constable Wilkinson searched the paddock and the creeks, and about 100 yds from the spot where the capsize had occurred he found the naked body of a man, which has since been identified as that of Duncan McCullum, a well-known settler, residing at Tooma. The supposition is that after meeting with the accident the deceased lost his reason, and stripped himself, as his clothing; was found scattered about the paddock. He had walked or fallen over an embankment into the swamp, a distance of 40ft. On the deceased's head was a severe cut, caused either by the accident with the sulky or the fall inte the water. Where the body was found there were a f*w feet »f water, just sufficient to cover it. The deceased had been travelling night and day To see his brother,. Hugh McCullum, who died, m Albury, and whose funeral left Bowna the day of the. accident. He was a widower, 64 year-: of age, and leaves a grown-up family.
