MARRIED IN HASTE.

Marry in haste and repent at leisure is a rulo that is repeated to monotony's limit in the Divorce Court, but it is rarely that there is such an instance of rapidity of marriage as was given before Mr. Justice Simpson at Sydney, a few 'ays ago. A petitioner for divorce stated that before her marriage she bad known her husband for about 'nine months. One evening ho casually invited her to go for a waiik to see some of his friends. She agreed, and the gentleman took her to a house in Surry-hills, where he informed her that she was in the house of a minister. That being so, he continued, "wo might as well get married." The lady was surprised; she was not prepared, she" had not the consent of her father or mother; it was impossible! Then the lady raised the objection that she wanted to remain in her situation, i At this stage the clergyman was requested to leave the room by the ardent swain, while he further argued his suit. His supplications eventually overcame the objections raised by the lady, and the clergyman was recalled to complete'the bargain. In tolling this story to Mr. Justice Simpson, the lady stated that she had made it quite clear that she was under age, and that no consent to the marriage had been given by her parents, who were alive. His Honor expressed surprise, and said that if her story was true, and he had no reason to doubt it, a prosecution should be commenced. He sent for an officer from the Department of the Registrar-General, informed him of what had been given in evidence, and advised that inquiries should be made
