WAUL I HOSPITAL.

[BY TELEGE.U'H.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Waiui, Saturday. The monthly meeting of the Waihi Hospital Trustees was held last night. The House Committee reported that it was agreed to insure the buildings and furniture in the State Fire Office for £3850; also that the trustees be recommended to instal an X rays apparatus. The report stated that the matron had said that in order to adopt the eight; hours system she would require one more probationer nurse and a wardsmaid. The question of installing the X rays was deferred pending the receipt of a report from Mr. Barloy. which would provide further information on the subject. On the motion of tho chairman, soconded by Mr. Donaldson, it was resolved that the recommendations of the House Committee be adopted, and that the matron bo authorised to introduce the eight hours system, It was resolved that the matter of arranging tho length of time nurses remain on night duty be left in the hands of the matron. A short time ago the trustees wrote to tho Government respecting extra probationer nurses with State aided salaries, and asking for two white and one Maori nurses under the scheme. The following reply from the Hon. G. Fowlds has been received: —" When the replies from the various hospital boards were placed before tho late Right Hon B. .]". Seddon he select-. cd seven hospitals as an initial exporiment in the scheme for placing extra proba--tioner nurses on • the staff. These hospitals have been duly notified, and some of them have selected probationers in addition to their regular staff. If the experiment sueceeds the Government will doubtless consider the question of extending the number of hospital;;, but for the present it is not intended to <lo so." Dr. Deck, the newly appointed anaesthetist to the hospital, was* present and when discussing the advisability ofgetting an X rays apparatus suggested that the Waihi Grand Junction Company might be approached in view of making an arrangement to have the accumulators charged ai their station, but it would be much better if the Board could arrange to connect the power station and tho hospital with a single •sable on poles. By the adoption of this scheme the whole building could be lighted by electricity, the upkeep of which Would ho merely nominal.
