'I'm: Canterbury Grocers' Industrial Union of Employers at a meeting held last night resolved: ••That this union enters the strongest protest against the sweeping and unjustifiable remarks made by the member for Avon in the House of Representatives, 'that the retail trade is guilty of the practice of giving short weight,' considering such a statement is absolutely untrue, and the Christchurch retail trade is conducted in an honest and straightforward manner." A copy of the resolution lias been forwarded to the Hon. Jas. McGowan, and to all the Canterbury members.
