BOARD OF EDUCATION.
Ax ordinary mooting of the Auekfalw Board of Education was held ye» terday, when ..there • were present; Messrs. L. J. Baghall (chairman), G. Edgecumbe, .1. D. MoKenzie, W. F. Lang, C T. Barriball, and A. R. Harris.
Leave of absence was granted to Mr. C. J. Parr, who is absent in Fiji.
Chairman's Report: The chairman reported that the Wark-vorth Comuiittee'bad been asked to furnish additional information in support of the request for establishment of a district, high school. The resignation had been received of Mr. G. Bigg-Wither, master Waihi District High School. Mr, W. J. X. Fletcher had been temporarily placed in charge of Lucas' Creek school, in the absence of the teacher; and Miss Emily E. Kae was temporarily to take the assistant*! plate at Waiokaraka school.
Teachers' Selection Committee: Th« Teachers' Selection Committee recommended that tho following appointments should 1>« authorised by the Board: Lionel Izod, teacher, Wellsford; Reuben L. Hooy, teacher, Avoca : and Alphonso W. Sergeant, pupil teacher, Waihi District High School. The committee" also recommended that & relieving teacher be sent to take temporary charge of the Cordon school, and that th« Tokatoka School Committee lie consulted as to the proposed appointment of Mr. Robert; Barton to charge of the No. 1 school. The report was approved. Finance: The Finance Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to £50 17s 7d on the administration account. £B*2 18s lOd on the building account, and £91 15s Sri on the manual ami technical account. The committee recommended that action should be taken to remove. the rtora from Howe-street property to a coiner of the school ground at, Newton West, subject to the consent of the district school committee. The applications for the formation of separate school districts for Eureka and Tango* wahine schools respectively had been considered, and the committee recommended} that action l>o taken in accordance with law to give effect to the same and to define) suitable boundaries. The committee had received letters of explanation from Jordan. Onehuiiga, Waiuku, and Wharepoa School Committees, in reference to bins of expenditure disallowed by the auditor, and recommended that the letters he .acknowledged. The report was approved. ' Applications for New Schools: An application for a school building at Broadwood (Hokianga) had been rcforred to the inspector, who recommended that the parents bo asked to provide a suitable building. With regard to an application from Geard's Bay (Capo Colvillo) it, was decided to open a school, provided the qualifications of a teacher submitted for appointment, were approved by the, inspector. The Board resolved to apply for a grant from the Government for the building of a school a* Rauawa (Tokatoka), and an application for school accommodation at. Te Tin (Bay of Islands) was referred to the inspector. Remuers School: Tho chairman, stated that the application from St. Heliers Bay for the removal of the Tamaki West school
to St. Hcliers was still under consideration. The matter of Remuera school was mixed up with this. There- had been an' application for another school at. Re miter a, and the suggestion made by Mr. Hogben, Inspec-tor-General, was that a side school should bo erected, but the committee and the people of Romuera did not recommend that, as a, eido school would simply bo for infants. In the meantime he suggested that the matter should be deferred, and that the headmaster of Remuera school should be- communicated with and asked for a report on the* number of children from Newmarket district attending ilemuera school. If the Board found 'there wore a number attending from Newmarket it would have to limit the school attendance. There was plenty of room afc Newmarket school, while Rernuera school was crowded. This suggestion was agreed to by the Board. " , Raurimu School: The Board decided to request the opinion of the Public Work* Department as to whether it was advisable to establish a permanent school at Raurimu, on the Main Trunk line, in view of the | probability of the gangs of men being I moved further along the Tine.
