' LojrDOX, July 21. The will of the late Mr. Alfred Beit is dated April, 1905. Underwit a fund of £1,200,000 is to be created for the furtherance of the railway and the telegraph between Capetown and Cairo. This fund .is to be administered by Mr. Otto Beit (brother), Mr. Julius Werhner. and Mr. R F. Hawkesley.

The testator bequeaths the residue of the estate to his brother Otto.

The estate has been estimated at £7,000,000. Mr. Beit was a native of Hamburg, and he has left £20,000 to charities there. It will be observed that he has left no less for the furtherance' of his friend Cecil Rhodes' great scheme of railway and telegraphs from the Cape to Cairo, and that he has heavily endowed education in Rhodesia, in the development of which he took a great interest.
