Thames, Thursday. • The fortnightly meeting of the Thames Borough Council was held this evening. A letter from the secretary of the Young Men's Club was received stating that the club intended to erect a now building for the use of the members as club rooms, and asking the. Council to grant a lease of the Council's allotment in l'ahau-street for 21 years at a nominal rent, / The matter was referred to the Board of Works to report on. A communication was received from the Treasury to the effect that the sum of £200 had been paid into the bank to the credit of the Council as subsidy to the Victoria Reserve extension works. Returns from the manager of the Bank of New Zealand were read, showing that 87260z 15dwt of gold had been purehasod as tho product Of mines within the Thames borough from May 1 to July 11, and returns from the Collector of Customs, Auckland, showed that the gold exported from the port of Auckland for the quarter ending June 30 was 13,6680z, of tho value of £57.560, obtained from mines within the Thames borough, and 14240z, value £5796, from tho Thames County. The town clerk was instructed to call for tenders for the delivery of 1000 yds of broken metal for raising -the crown of the road in Pollen-street, and the foreman of works was instructed to lay new tile pipes in the open water-table on the north side of Williamson-street from Owen-street to the beach, with concrete 'drain' on top, and to lay new wooden block crossings to tho Public Library and both railway stations.
