' Dun'kwn', Thursday. At to-day's meeting of the Education Board it, was resolved, on the motion of Mr. T. Mackenzie, "That with respect to free places in secondary schools the following be recommended to the Minister for Education for his adoption : —(a) That the age limit for free places be abolished; or, (b) in the event of this not being-adopted, that a pupil shall be qualified to be a holder of a free place who, being, not over 15 years of age on December 31 preceding the date of his admission to a secondary school, has obtained a certificate of proficiency, as defined by the regulation under the principal Act." ' In connection with the appointment of teachers to large city and suburban schools, a motion was passed that preference should be given, ; when filling such vacancies, to. those teachers . who. being equally qualified, have taken their. share in the work of education in the buck country districts. . .
