THE PREMIER PICNIC.
The Premier Picnic takes place at Motutapti to-morrow, and' a record attendance is expected. At a meeting of the committee, held yesterday evening, final arrangement's were made, and a. telegram was received from the Premier stating that, if possible, he would be present. Owing to the presence of the Admiral and squadron in Wellington he was not in a position, however, to state definitely that he would be in Auckland. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. A. M. Myers), Mr. W. F. Masscy, M.H.Pv., and Mr. A. Kidd, M.H.R., have intimated their intension of being present. It was reported by the Boating Committee that the Devonport Steam Ferry Company had made complete arrangements for the conveyance of a larger crowd than usual. In addition to the usual steamers, the new boats Kestrel and Albatross will bo in. commission, and as both of these are capable of carrying a large number of passengers, it was felt certain that a large number will take advantage of what is one of the most popular excursions of the year-. Reports from Thames, Paeroa, Coromandel, Karangahake, Waihi, Te Aroha, and Warkvvorth indicated that ther© would in all probability be a difficulty in providing sufficient steamer accommodation. Owing to the train service now connecting with Waihi it was pointed out that two steamers would be required to convey excursionists from Paeroa, and that these had been arranged for. The sports programme is an exceedingly attractive one, and record entries have been received, so that all that is required to make the picnio an even greater success than its predecessors is good weather.
