Whangarei, Friday. The Highland Concert Company held their j concert at the Theatre Royal last night, in aid of the funds of the Whangarei Hospital. Considering the unfavourable weather the attendance was good, about 150 persons being present. The chairman (Mr. J. D. McKenzie) announced that the company had generously acceded to the request of a largo number of people to give another concert. The opening of the Whangarei manual,, training, and technical school lias been fixed for August 11. Mr. J. T. Giffney, of Ngunguru, is very seriously ill. The bush contractors have been looking forward hopefully for a fresh during yesterday and to-day, but the rain has not been very heavy. Mr. Seon has just returned' from a sea trip to Whangamumu, the whaling station of Messrs. Cooke Brothers. He. reports the catch on Sunday last of the biggest cow whale ever caught at that station, which, with one this week, brings the number up to 20 I- this season.
