• MISS KELLERMAN". FAILS. By Telegraph.— Association.— London, July 27. Two attempts were made yesterday to swim the English Channel and both failed owing to fog and rough. seas. Edward Heaton, of Liverpool, was in the water for six hours and covered six miles and then retired. A steamer nearly ran him down. Annette Kellerman, of Melbourne, also started, but abandoned the attempt after being three hours- in the water. . Both swimmers were repeatedly overwhelmed by rough seas.
