MEETINGS.

PONSONBY SHAKE SPERE AND RHETORIC CLUB.

The Ponsonby Shakespere and Rhetorio Club commenced its season before a wellfilled house at tho Lovs 'Institute on Wednesday evening, the piece presented being Shakespere's comedy, "Twelfth Night." From tho commencement the reading was followed with the greatest interest, and the frequent applause and laughter testified that all the points were appreciated. There was an evident sympathy between tho audience and the performers, which enabled the latter to interpret their parts with perfect confidence and at times to introduce a little judicious acting, which gave life-likeness arid variety to the piece. The oast was as follows:— Orsino, Mr. T. IT. Wells; Sebastian, Mr. It. Billion; Antonio, Mr. (J. E. Adams; Curio, Mr. A. Alison; Valentine, Mr. C. Tate; Sir Toby Belch, Mr. A. S. 0. Brown; Sir Andrew Agnecheok, Mr. W. 11. Graham; Malvolio, Mr. G. Neville; Fabian, Mr. O. Sinclair; Clown, Dr. O. G. Aiokin; Olivia, Miss Esther Lewis; Viola, Miss Margaret Sloane; Maria, Miss Clarice Campbell. Where all were good it is difficult to givo ©special praise to any individual; yet mention must be made of the three ladies, who had prepared their parts so thoroughly that they were able to recite many of the finer passages without reference to the book; of Mr. Wells' interpretation of the part of Orsino, full of restrained passion; and of the really fine acting of Mr. A. S. C. Brown, Mr. W. H. Graham, Mr. G. Neville and Dr. Aiclcin. Judicious outting enabled the reading to be completed within two bom's, without destroying the continuity of tho story. Judging by Wednesday night's performance, the club should have a successful career.
