BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The fortnightly meeting of the Auckland Education Board, held yesterday, was attended by the chairman (Mr. S. Luke) and Messrs. H. ,T. Greenslade, R. Hobbs, J. Stall worthy, /IT. D. McKetizie, 0. J. Parr, G. Edgecumbe, and A. R. Harris.
Appointments: The Teachers' Selection Committee recommended that the following appointments should be authorised by the Board:— P. D. Woods, headmaster, Te Awamutu; Mr. D. W. McNaughlon, headmaster, Woodside; Mr, F. Lough, teacher, Ruapekapeka . half-time schools; Mr. T. Finch, teacher, Houhora; Mr. A. M. Rowe, teacher, Waiharara; Mr. 'Rhys Williams, teacher, Waikare; Mr. D. A. B. Allison, teacher, Gumtown;" Miss M. Mellveen, teacher, Paparimu; Miss P. J. Tennent, teacher, Purerua; Miss M. E. Herbert, first lady assistant, Remuera; Miss E. W. B. Davis, second lady assistant, Remuera; Miss K. E. Crowe, mistress, Tanpiri; Miss Millicent M. Ashby, pupil-teacher, Mount Albert; Miss Percival Hart-land, pupilteacher, Huntly; Mr. Frank R. Goodwin, pupil-teacher, Bayfield; Miss Rita Cleveland, pupil-teacher, Parnell; and Miss Jeannie L. Marriner, pupil-teacher, Grafton. The appointments were approved. The committee also recommended ,that the temporary appointments of teachers to the sole charge of the Raupo No.'2 and the Bream. Tail and Waipu Cove schools be confirmed, and that the temporary appointment of master to the district high school, Waihi, be extended until September 30 next. The recommendations were approved.

Vacancies: It was decided 'to invito applications for the following vacancies:— Wha.nga.poua, sole charge; Chapel-street, assistant-master, at' £155 (candidates to ,be classified E2, D 3, or higher); Newton East, lady assistant, at £90 (candidates to be classified E2, D 3, or higher); mistress, Ramarama school, £85. ■ . . , Applications Declined The applications from the Waiokaraka School Committee for' an additional assistant-teacher to that sohool and from the Auckland City Schools Committee for the appointment of two pupilteachers in place of an assistant-teacher at the Chapel-street school were declined. • Finance: The Finance Committee .recommended the payment of the following accounts—Administration account, £239 19s lid; manual and technical account, £426 3s; building fund account, £1089 16s 3d. Approved. 'Certificates of Transfer:* The Finance Committee submitted" a" report from the chief inspector showing the incomplete form in which "certificates of; transfer" children leaving on© school for another were issued by head teachers, and recommended that the Board should insist upon head teaohers complying to the fullest extent with the requirements of the regulation (No. 11) relating thereto. The,recommendation was adopted. Mairoa School: The tender- : of Messrs. Fox and Hardia for the erection of a school building at Mairoa was accepted at £248 10s. J '" .'' „ .-
Technical Education and • Manual Training: The director of technical education! (Mr. George George) reported that the five instructors who had been engaged in England on behalf of the Board in connection with the technical education and manual training department 'had arrived in good health and spirits, audi would commence their duties shortly. The opening of the manual training 'schools at- Thames and Whangarei-was fixed for the 4th and the 11th pros, respectively. i\ . , ,", • ■ '. Accommodation of Infants: In approving of Inspector Mulgan's recommendation that fresh accommodation should be supplied for the infants at tlw Beresford-street school the Board decided to apply to the Government for a special grant for the purpose'.
