, [FEOU OCR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] WALTON. THE bachelors of Waharoa gave. a very enjoyable dance here on Friday. There was a- large attendance from the surrounding disict3' COEOMANDEL. THE quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church was held on Thursday.last. The Rev. D V. Wilkinson (chairman! intimated that fortnightly services had been started at tne unner township, and had been .carried I on a ring the Past three months with success. Services had been held once a month at luaotuini Mercury Bay, and Gumtown, the latter place being taken in.as a , r prec! i m appointment since last April. Mr. Bobart Blackniore was unanimously received as a local preacher on trial. The finances for the past quarter were considered satisfactory and the general outlook hopeful. The Rev. W. Thompson, M.A.,. K.U., delivered an instructive and interesting lecture on ''Fiji" in the Caledonian Hall on Tuesday evening Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, there was a very fair attendance The lecturer dealt with his subject from' scientific, social, and political points of view He dealt with the manners and customs of the natives, and referred to the progress o ' the islands under British rule. The. lecture was illustrated by a number of views, shown by the aid of a lantern manipulated bv Mr. D. P. Parker.
