A MENACE TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY.
, Sir,—One sometimes reads in your reports of the meetings of the City Council or borough councils complaints of nuisance caused by sewerage, bad drainage, etc., existing in this or that neighbourhood, and it is generally rectified through attention being drawn to it, even though it may affect a very small neighbourhood. But surely what the Parnell Borough Council is doing should have been stopped at the outset. It has passed a law that every house in the borough has to have the wafer system, andl so the sewerage from hundreds of houses is carried down to the three beaches St. George's, Judge's, and Hobson Bays, and there it.lies reeking in the sun for several hours. Septic tanks are talked of. Surely the commonest of oommon sense would have provided the means for erecting the tanks before passing such a law or changing the late system. Hoping the Herald will use its influence to right this wrong and help in preventing our beaches being turned into open sewers, instead, of splendid health resorts. L.E.A.
