HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
A hkktixc of the Auckland Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs. J." McLeod, G. J. Garland, B. Davis, L. J. Bagnall, J. Bollard, M.H.R., VV. R. Bloomfield, A. Bruce, A. 11. Harris, and S. C. Brown.
Election of Chairman: On the motion of Mr. liarland, seconded by Mr. Harris, Mr. MeLeod was re-elected chairman till the end of the present year, and Mr. S. C. Brown a member of the Hoard. Mr. MeLeod then took the chair and briefly returned thanks. Operating Theatre: The Board's architect (Mr. .Hartley) submitted somo proposals in. accordance with tho wishes of the. honorary medical staff for improvements to the old operating theatre at the hospital. Mi. Bollard .-aid that they should, before doing anything final, lay the plans before the InspectorGeneral (Dr. McGregor). It had previously happened that after they had earned out some, improvements, a now honorary staff came into ofliee and totally condemned them. One medical man wanted one tiling and anothci something else. If the matter wont before the Inspector-General tiny would have someone to fix the blame on if the staff were dissatisfied. Mr. Bruce supported Mr. Bollard's view. Mr. uioomfiild said the work was oik of urgency, tud should be done forthwith. This was endorsed by Mr. Davis, who held the opinion that the Board knew what it was do.ng without tho opinion of Dr. McGregor be-.ig necessary. Mr. Hartley, who was present, explained that the work was urgent, and that tho whole of the honorary staff agreed with the scheme of the work. The Chairman explained that the work would cost £116, and would be a permanent improvement when completed. Mr. S. ('. Brown said that there was another matter on the proposal, and that was to expend £158 16-, to provide hot water lavatories for each ward. Mo thought that that was a necessary work, and that it should bo carried out. Mr. Bollard'.? motion, ' That the work- he referred to the Hospital Committee and the Inspector-General," «as carried.' Appointment of Clerk and Collector: Seventy-two applications were receiver! for the position of clerk and collector at the hospital. The applications were referred to the Hospital Committee to reduce to six. Hospital Committee's Report: The Hos pilal Committee reported that they had not accepted any tender for .-team pipes, as the lowest tender was informal, and there hid been a difference of over £60 between that tender and the next lowest. On the leccnmendation of the architect they preferred that tho work be done by day labour. It was resolved to invite fresh tenders.
Assistant Matron: The Hospital Committee, recommended that one of the senior sisters be promoted to act as aji assistant to the matron. Mr. Garland asked if tre appointment meant another oflicc and-an-other salary. The Chairman explained that it did not." but. suggested that one of the sisters at the hospital be appointed. The recommendation was adopted.
