ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.

CAMBRIDGE.

A MEETING of the Cambridge Road loarJ was held on Saturday last, there,beingWesent: Messrs. M. Butler, S. Cowling, Newell, J. Taylor, and. 11. Swayne. Che returning officer reported the election! of Mr. Taylor as a member of the Board, [nd stated that Mr. Swayn© had replaced fir. C. Lake. Mr. Butler was re-elected chiirman. The chairman said they had not $et received their copy of the valuation nil, so that it would bo necessary to defer t)# matter of striking the rate till next meeting. It was probablo they would find, their valuations had 1 risen 25 per cent., and it would thee he for the Board to consider whether the %d should be- continued, or revert to the {d rate. The Board occupied * sound financial position, but to carry on the work successfully as much revenue was re; quired as they had last year. Mr. Jno. Murphy, of Tamahere, submitted a price for a brick culvert on the Victoria Road, but it was considered too hijh, and Mr. Murphy is to be asked instead tho draw tip plans and specifications for a timber bridge. Mr. J. McCann wrote in reply to a request by, the Board that he .should clear ,the drain opposite his. property (which it was reported to the Board was filled in by him), inclosing la worth of stamps to pay for the damage done. It was resolved to get the Board's surfaceman to clean out the drain, and if the expense of doing the work exceeded the shilling, to charge Mr. McOami with the balai.ee. It was resolved that 'Mr. Goodwin be engaged to re-form the road from Victoria Road to Mr. Andrews' place; that Mr. Taylor be paid 3d per yard royalty for gravel taken from his land; to repair the main road from Leslie's gully to the bridge, and to patch it; from the gully to the church corner. The matter of purchasing a. road machine was discussed, but deferred till next meeting. Mr. Cowling's action was endorsed in the matter of arranging for having 40 chains of clearing dona on the No. 1 Station Road, the price being Is lOd per chain. I ' ' HUNTLT. The annual meeting of the H.uuly Roaft Board was held in the Volunteer Hall on Friday, when there were present: Messrs. .1. P. Bailey, J.P., L. B. Harris, Jan..R. T. Hill. E. S. Wight, and the clerk (Mr. K. W. E. Tattley). The returning officer (Mr. Tattley) presided. On the motion of Mr. Wight, seconded by Mr. Hill. Mr. Bailey was elected chairman of the Board for the eleventh year in succession. In* returning thanks for the honour Mr. Bailey spoke of the- harmony that had characterised the meetings of the Board, and trusted that the same zeal on behalf of the ratepayers would animate the members. The clerk was instructed to obtain a surrey of the rote" leading past Mr. Hill's farm at, Matahura. Mr. Harris reported that the road leading to Mr. Hcaley's property was in " l'» ( ' state, and offered to inspect the road i'i question. The offer was accepted with thanks.
