A GUNBOAT AGROUND. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. London, May 7. The British gunboat Thistle has run ashoie at Cape Finesterre, on the coast of Spain. (Received May 8, 9.18 p.m.) London, May 8. The gunboat Thistle has been floated off. She is not damaged. The Thistle is a first-class gunboat of 710 tons. She is commanded by Lieutenant Harry Glossop. THE GUN QUESTION. (Received May 8, 9.18 p.m.) London, May 8. Captain Pretyman, M.P.. (Civil Lord of the Admiralty), speaking at Ipswich, referred to the recent sensationa 1 statements regarding naval guns. He said that an accident to a 12in gun had revealed a defect tha' could be remedied. The guns were perfectly fit for service if required. The Admiralty also had in reserve a sufficient number of guns, but publication of details was not desirable.
