BATHURST BURR.
TO THE SDITOB. Sir, —Many of your readers doubtless have heard of the dreaded Batlmrst burr, the most, feared, perhaps, of all noxious weeds in Australasia, hut few happily are acquainted with it except.by name. Fortunately kit our colony, this pest has so far been only a stranger here. However, while walking along the road to Cheltenham Beach, at Devonport, last week, I came across several plant- of this terrible burr. A few plants were found on the beach itself. It needs only that attention be directed to the presence of this scourge in our midst, and steps will no doubt be taken to secure its extermination. Our noxious weeds inspectors should! make it their business to see that everyone of these plants is speedily destroyed, for the burrs are now maturing, and, unless immediately destroyed, the weed will surely spread, and may do incalculable harm. Wet do not want a repetition of Australia's experience with this nest. Let us be warned by their lesson, and remember that "a stitch in time saves nine.'"—-I am, etc., H.B.H.
