Japanese official reports deny the truth of General Linevitch's statement that his troops, after taking five positions, had captured Tunghusiang. This place is still held by the Japanese.
General Linevitcb reports that a force of Cossacks have defeated a squadron of Japanese cavalry, killing 20 men and capturing 1-2.

It is reported at St. Petersburg that the Government proposes to sell three of the most prosperous of the Slate railways to a company to be formed in France and Belgium. The price mentioned is £80,000,000.

London*, May 5. The Argentine Government admits that it has received tempting offers For its navy from Russia and Japan. The reply given to the offers was j that the navy was for sale,"- but dej livery must be accepted after peace j had been signed.
