NEW PLYMOUTH EXHIBITION.
[FROM OUR OWN' rORRICSI'OXD'RXT.] "J'ijk various educational sections at the New Plymouth Carnival and Exhibition were well tilled with exhibits from school children, entries being received from Ciiristehureh on the southern, side, and Auckland on the north. In the principal sections—viz., drawing, brushwork, needlework. etc., the eompetil ions were very keen and interesting, and the judges had some very difficult tasks to decide, their comment* being very favourable on all of the specimens shown. Pupils from the Daninnirks district shone out- :u the prize list for brushwork ; in, fact, they well he'.d their own in any competition for which they entered. in the main building the. Premier Joinery Company of Auckland show some beautiful work, including fancy glass doors and coloured panels, also a splendid assortment of joinery. The New Plymouth Sa.<dt and Door Company also show a large exhibit of joinery work in all its branches. Mr. 11. S. Hose, engineer of the New Zealand branch of the Kit sou Lighting Syndicate, has oil view a few of these famous lights. Mr. Joint Wilson, Auckland, has a large exhibit of cement, lime, etc., 011 view in a spacious stand. .Messrs. liallinger and Co., Wellington, had a. well-arranged exhibit, of gas fittings and plumbers' work generally. I '1 ho Empire Company. Wellington, had a. splendidly-arranged, centre statu! upon which many specialities of the company's manufacture. also delicacies, were shown to advantage. The children's day (January 5) was an immense success, and considerably over 1500 youngsters were present at the day's function. held in the Pecreation (irounds. Tho entries for the various events totalled over GOO, and consequently a large number of oliicials had to be requisitioned to cope with the heavy work on that day. The attendance of adults was also large, the grounds bearing a very animated appearance. Alter the sports, most- of the children j went through the Exhibition, and thoroughly enjoyed their day's outing, the country portion returning home by train in the even- j iug. lit v 'JT.T.KCr. The Premier is oxpcct.cd on Thursday, when, a military tournament is to lie held. On the same day a special train j will he. run from Wanganui. On Saturday j Mr. .Mills was entertained at lunch in the Exhibition Puddings, and presented by the j natives with several gifts of historic value, i Tho .Minister expressed surprise at the size I and excellence of the Exhibition. i At a. meeting of the executive to-night, it was decided to keep open till to-morrow week.
