Tin" by-election for Staleybridge, caused by the succession of Mr. Matthew White-Ridley, M.P., to the peerage through the death of his father, Lord Ridley, lias resulted as follows: —Mr. Chectham (Liberal), •'1029; Mr. Travis Cleg (Conservative). 3078. .At lie general election the voting was: Mr. Jlidlpy (Conservative), 3321; Mr. Cheetli ahi (Liberal), 3240.. A minority of 81 has been converted into a majority of 951.
