Uext, whoso absence the previous week was due ! to the fact that lie was not served with the j subpoena, and knew nothing about, the. case, now staled that the defendant was ~u old friend of his, Did; lie had never given her authority to pledge his credit or use his ticket number at the stores. Prisoner, who had been laughing throughout the proceedings, asked the. witness if he did not remember writing her- a letter in which ho said that .she might use his number, which lie gave her. Witness: Never. Prisoner: Oh! The Admiral: 1 never recollect that you asked me for it. Prisoner (laughing); It's a. pity. lam so sorry. I withdraw my statement. You never did give, me your number. Mr. H. M. Hoehmer,, assist secretary of the store*, said lie had an interview with prisoner whilst she was detained before arrest. She threw a. bunch of keys at witness, cutting him over the eye. Mr. Sheil: She did the same thing to Inspector Fuller. Prisoner, in reply to the statutory caution, said she made no defence, and had no witnesses. Mr. Sheil commit led her for trial to the North London. Sessions, note being made on the commitment that the prisoner was certified to be of unsound mind.
