THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
DEPARTURE OF THE SONOMA. The mail steamer Sonoma arrived from Sydney early yesterday morning, after a, f good passage across of three days 16 hours, .- having experienced fine weather, with' a heavy southerly swell, on the run across the- Tasman' Sea. After the usual medical ; ' and Customs inspection, the steamer berthed at the Queen-street Wharf, and as soon as the passengers and their baggag? were disembarked, the work of taking in cargo and bunker coal was proceeded with, and, notwithstanding the inclement weather which prevailed, was carried out in very good time. The Sonoma had a good number of pas. seniors for Auckland, and also for Samoa, Honolulu, and San Francisco, and the number was considerably added to at this port. The steamer's cargo from Australia for San Francisco included the usual lines of produce, and at large lines of meats, produce, etc., for Samoa,, onions for Honolulu, and flax, pelts, etc., for San Francisco were added to the list. The Sonoma proceeded on her voyage to Island ports and San Francisco at twenty minutes past live p.m. yesterday, and is dua at the Californian port on the 23rd inst.. her mails being timed to reach London on February 4.
