New Zealand Herald Office, ■ ■' Monday evening. i 1 here was a firm tono on the sharemarkel: t to-day, and fair business was done in miu- - ing shares. There were sales of Kuranui- • Caledonians at Is, and more wanted at lid. ; .May Queen Extendeds changed hands at 4d, I and New May Queens at 3d. Waiotahis,, ' which have not Been much quoted of late, • were called for at 15s, with no sellers. The reason for the rather sudden rise is not publicly known, but shareholders are not disposed for business at present. In Upper I hames lines Tairua Broken Hills sold at 2s id and 2s 9cL with further buyers quoting - , 1 ' 1 "j. former figure. , There were sales of . Talisman Consolidated* at 9s 9u, and Waitekauris 2s lOd. Waihi Extendeds were in demand at improved rates, and there were inquiries for Waihi Grand Junctions at £;5 , Bs, with sellers at £3 13s. J The same vessel brings a further lot of I the new season's dried fruits. A heavy sale ■ j is reported in 'nil lines. Almonds and nuts j are also selling very freely. The new sea- ! son s Barcelona and almond nuts have arj rived, and are turning out of very fin» i quality. The walnuts left over from last : j season are in very poor condition. A good . | many muscatels are left over from last season, and are offering at a reduction. Figs j are meeting a heavy sale, being cheaper - this year. J Agents report as follows on American canned fruits:—" Our principals in San | Urancisco advise great scarcity in peaches,, | specially in cheaper grades. The association have a very limited supply in band, and j have withdrawn quotations on all grades except one variety of extras. It will be impossible to obtain cheaper grades of peaches late in the season, except at very 1 high prices.*. Dried fruits remain high and firm. Ihe very heavy recent rains have considerably damaged this commodity, as a. largo quantity was still in the driers." Prices I have advanced materially, and with the ! shortage of fancy stock, higher figures will jbe realised The packing of raisins and j prunes has been very much retarded, but ; the quality is fancy, and with the prevaili ing low prices stocks should move freely. j Ihe larger sizes of prunes are scarce, which ! will tend to increase the sale of smaller ; sizes. I Prunes have been very cheap for some | time, the market, being kept down by large j stocks in hand in America, but these will I probably move off better in view of this ' later news. j An advance has taken place in pollard. | AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. j Tiie following »re Mondav'a closing prii-e« the business done being us "follow* :_Km-«)i:i.'i,\ds- .
