London, December 11. The Nobel prizes for researches in science have been awarded to Lord Rayleigh for physics and to Sir William Ramsay for chemistry.
The Nobel prizes were provided under the wall of Dr. Alfred Nobel, the inventor of I dynamite. They are given irrespective of . nationality to those persons who shall have . ! contributed during the preceding year most , materially to the benefit of mankind. There . are five prizes, each worth £8000, given for •' ti° . ° wing, objects:— a) Discoveries in , physics (2) chemistry, (3) physiology or rnedi- :" . cine, (4), literature, (5) best effort towards 1 i the fraternity of nations and the promotion f of peace.
