MINING AND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

[BY telegraph.— ASSOCIATION.] Westport, Monday. At a meeting of the committee of the Westport Mining and Industrial Exhibition tonight, it was shown that entries were- coming in very well for the Christmas week exhibition, one of the exhibits of woollen goods being valued at over £300. The chairman stated that machinery and models would be worked by gas, steam, water, and electric power. Several entries, have also been received foi the cricket tournament in connection with the exhibition, and for which-an anonymous donor has presented a large handsome silver cup, and the committee gold medals.

A member of the Wellington City Couned (Mr. Izard) intends to again move in the direction of securing the observance of Saturday as the universal half-holiday ijo. Wellington. He has given notice that he Will move the following motion at, the next meeting of the City Council: " That in the motion to appoint/ delegates under the Shops and Shop Assistants Act, it be stated, that this Council is of opinion that the afternoons of Saturdays bo the afternoon upon which the weekly half-holiday be kept, and that thi Council instruct its delegates to vote that Saturday be the weekly half-holiday.''
