EIGHTS OF RIPARIAN OWNERS.
[BY telegbaph.-—press association.] ... ■ Wellington, Wednesday. The Appeal Court is bearing the King v. Joyce case, touching the rights of riparian owners in New Zealand. The question in dispute is the ownership of an,area of 12 acres, part of & large shingle bank on the Wai.poa River, Poverty Bay. ; Tha Crown claims that the land in question and not the bank of the river, is the defendant's boundary, and that, the defendant is not ; entitled to subsequent accretions brought down by the floods. -The Crown also asks for an, injunction to prevent ;■ the Compensation Court at Gisborne from bearing a claim which the defendant has lodged in consequence of the Government having taken land for' the Karaka railway. s. The defend-. ant claims that his boundary : is the river, bank, as', set 'out in the original;; Crown grant, and that the shingle bank and accretions are included in his land. , Dr. Findlay appears for -the Crown, and Mr. Chapman for the other side.
