GEN, ORLOFFS DISASTER. London, September 15. Unofficial telegrams received at St. Petersburg attribute the disaster that befell General Orioff's column at Yentai to General Samsonoff having refused his request for cavalry reinforcements. THE RUSSIAN' LOSSES. Loudon, September 15. General Kuropatkin reports that the Russian losses from August -28 to Monday,' September 5, were: Killed, 4000; wounded, 12,000.

EFFECT UPON" JAPANESE STOCKS. JAPANESE NEWSPAPERS CONCERNED. (Received September IG, 10.42 p.m.) London, September 16. Owing to the escape of General Kuropatkin from Liao-yang, Japanese bonds have fallen five points during the week. The Japanese newspapers are much concerned at the fall, and also express surprise at the apparent change in English sentiment respecting the probable results of the war. The Times says that there are no particular signs of any such change in public feeling in England to justify the fears expressed in Tokio. ' The English people, as a whole, it, says, never have been more im-; pressed with Japanese courage and I resolution than since the historic battle of Liao-yang. THE RUSSIAN LOSSES. 3100 DEAD LEFT. (Received September 16, 10.42 p.m.) London, September 16. Field-Marshal Oyama has reported that the Russians left 3100 of their dead on the battlefield of Liao-yang.
