EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.
A meeting of the. Management Committee of the Auckland , Educational Institute was Held on September 10, Mr, R. D. Stewart (president) in the chair.,, The chief subject of discussion was the enforcement of the Truancy Act in, country districts.. The following resolution was .passed:.—-"That this committee regrets to learn that, in consequence of the non-enforcement of • the Truancy ■ Act in certain country . pfU'ts of the Auckland , educational district, the education of many children is being injuriously affected, and.(hi such cases)*the work of teachers seriously hampered. , It hereby instructs its secretary- to call the attention of Hie truant office:'to the foregoing .. statement, and- to emphasise the fact that the Act is mandatory and should, in the opinion of the institute; be, enforced without. respect of persons." • Mr, G. W. R&hson presented an extensively-sighed memorial Urging the introduction of -a system. Of payment ,of teachers oilier tHaii that, based oh attendance. He forcibly argued in favour of the Memorial. Mr.. Murray .having handed in a remit which will hftve the effect of opening the whole 'question at the forthcoming conference at Wanganui, it was decided to leave further discussion "of'.the matter to that body. A nuriibe; of letters froth first assistants of medium-sized ~ schools ,were brought before, the committee. In these more consideration in regard to salary was claimed. This mattel wis; also made the subject; of a. remit. to the conference.
