LINCOLN COLLEGE.

THE THOS. BRYDONE SCHOLARSHIP.

[IST TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRtSTCKtrRCH, Thursday,, The committe of the Canterbury *. and P. Association has agreed to do all in its power to further the proposal of the Otago Association that, with a view to perpetuating! the memory of tho late Mr. Thos. Brydone, who did so much towards fostering tho dairying, agricultural and frozen meat industries of New Zealand, steps be at once taken to organise a movement for the purpose- of raising £1000, tho annual income from which shall be devoted to the purposes of a scholarship to be called "the Thos. Brydone scholarship" for Lincoln College for the be3t all-round student in his first year, to be held for one year. During the discussion at the A. and P. Association Committee meeting Mr. Lowrie, the director of the Agricultural College said that the board of governors of the institution would heartily welcome such a" method of commemorating the memory of a man who had been a pioneer io agricultural matters in Now Zealand. Regarding a suggestion that had been made that the scholarship should be for the. whole course, his own opinion was that it would be better that it should be given for one year. If made for one year then each student who entered the college could have an opportunity of competing. In the event of a student winning it at the end of his first year he would also probably win one of the board's scholarships, and tho two would enable him to continue at the college if otherwise he would be unable to do so. Another member said tho Otago Society's action was a particularly graceful one seeing that Mr. Brydone had spent most of his life in Otago, and the proposal was to offer a scholarship at Lincoln College in Canterbury. He also took it as a very high testimony of their opinion of the value of Lincoln Co'lego as a colonial institution.
