It is now stated that " Major" Taylor will not return to Australia to race this season, the matter of terms riot being agreed upon. Having travelled so much for the last two yearn, he was no doubt not too anxious to undertake another campaign, for he is reported to have said on his return home that the last season's racing was the hardest he had ever had. Negotiations are in progress for the apoearance of Thorwald Ellegaard, the famous Dutch sprinter, who has won the world's championship several times, and if about the best man on the Continent. His appearance money is £2000. Having been barred from returning to Sidney as a cyclist, the Yankee rider, Floyd Macfarland, has, according to a report, made up his mind to return in charge of some pugilists. Macfarland is said to be able to use his hands rather well. . The tricycle, seemingly, is far from being extinct in England, as it is recorded that one R. 8. Cobley lowered the record of 100 miles on the road for this class of machine. The time occupied over the century was oh. 48ra. 255. In a 25-mile road Tace in England the scratch man was first sent away, which, of course, resolved the contest into, a series of unpaced time trials. The winner's net time for the distance was lh. 13m., which also beat the scratch man's time by one minute.
