THE CANAL QUESTION.
TO THE EDITOB. Sir,— the canal projeota, : plenty of people can be induced to write to the press and suggest what someone else should do. If youi correspondent Mr. Taylor is anxious to forward his projects, I would suggest that he make an effort to obtain sufficient funds to secure reliable data re the Tamaki connection, and £200 or £300 to obtain the necessary information regarding the requirements to complete this survey of the Wai-uku-Waikato connection. It vis quite "an easy matter for any of vis to give an opinion, but unless- this is backed up by a thorough survey,, carried out by competent engineers, little weight will be attached to it. Tho shortest way to obtain this information is to follow the example of the gentlemen who have given valuable time and provided funds to obtain information regarding the Avondale connection. -If writing to the press would accomplish anything surely it is time it was bearing isome fruit, as this has been going on for a matter of 50 years, and still, with the exception of the Avondale route, wo have no reliable data.— am, etc., H. Atkinson. ,
