During August the Talisman Consolidated ■ Gold Mining Company crushed and treated • 4405 tons c>f ore f»r a return of bullion valued at £7357 ss, or an average of £3. 13, ■ 5d per ton. This shows an increase in th« gross yield as compared with that for July (when 3975 tons gave bullion valued' at' £6836 12s Id, or £1 14s 8d per ton), though.the average per ton works out at a little less.On the other hand the costs per ton for July: were £1 10s, whereas the August costs were only £1 6s 5d per ton, as follows:— development, 5s lid; mining, 9s 6d; milting, 9s od; general expenses, Is 7d. j. u tonnage for tho past month was the largest treated during the present year. CO. j .;.' The Mahara Royal Gold Mining Gempany's winze is now down 51ft below tin v bottom level. The lode is 4ft wide, and gold is occasionally seen in the ore. ,
NEW FOUR-IN-HAND G.M. CO: ' In the New Four-in-Hand Gold Mini™ Company's mine gold was seen in four out of the five faces being worked in %$ slopes. In the south end of the block 12lb of picked stone were secured. A fair quan- «> ii- I tity of ore was obtained from the stopes in the floor of the intermediate level, and the quartz is making strong*; again. The rise - has been put up 17ft fi rther, and at last ' breaking down colours oi gold were seen hi J the stone. In a stope from here gold wa» J also seen in the ore from both walls. Then f are about 40 tons of ore on hand. ■ WAIHI EXTENDED G.M. CO. :j The Waihi Extended Gold Mining Com'. , pany's north drive on the footwall of the / \ reef is mow in a distance of 13ft from the crosscut. The ore, which is taken for tha './' width of the drive, is well mineralised, com- T posed of iron pyrites and zinc blende. The "' manager considers there is every likelihood of good, results being obtained from the reef when worked upon at a lower depth. When fehe drive is further advanced he intends to cut through to the hangingwali. In the south drive on the hangingwali poi<tion of the reef a rise has been put up 30flll|S from the roof of the drive ; this being' higillft' enough a drive will be driven from there, | § so as to connect .with the Junction drivea! s for ventilation purposes.
